EPA expands COVID-19 disinfectants list
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released an expanded list of disinfectant products for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
The expanded List: N: Disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2, includes 200 additional products. Amongst the products added, 40 of them were registered using the new expedited review process through the Agency.
“With this expanded list, EPA is making sure Americans have greater access to as many effective and approved surface disinfectant products as possible and that they have the information at their fingertips to use them effectively,” says EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler.
The disinfectant products on the list have not been tested specifically against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. However, they are expected to be effective against it as they have been tested and proven effective on either harder-to-kill viruses’ or against another human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2.
EPA has updated the product list to include the product’s active ingredient and the amount of time the surface should remain wet to be effective against the given pathogen.
