US EPA evaluates petition process for minimum risk pesticides under FIFRA Section 25(b)
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) and began a public comment period on the petition process for minimum risk or 25(b) pesticides. EPA is looking to streamline the process by revising how minimum risk active and inert substances are evaluated, factors used in classes of exemptions, state implementation, and the need for any future exemptions or modifications to current exemptions. Also, EPA requests comment on whether the Agency should amend existing exemptions or add a new class of pesticidal substances for exemptions. The public comment period will help to influence potential rulemaking on minimum risk pesticides to improve efficiency. Comments must be sent to the EPA on or before 7 July 2021.
