Developmental Neurotoxicity Studies (4/5/17)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Health Canada have collaborated to compile a new guidance document to better explain how developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) data is used to support pesticide registration. DNT data is used to assess the effects of chemicals on developing animals. The developing nervous system requires special attention as it is more vulnerable to certain chemicals, compared to an adult nervous system. These guidelines will serve as an initial evaluation and screen for chemicals that pose potential dangers to neurodevelopmental components.

This guidance seeks to align the ways in which U.S. and Canadian scientists interpret DNT data. Other parties, including international regulatory agencies, may take advantage of this guidance as well. EPA is releasing the document to the public to promote transparency.
